Samsung PN63B590 63-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

Samsung PN63B590 63-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

I love the set so far. It comes already mounted on the stand, and with the "white glove" delivery, I had it plugged in and operating a few minutes after the truck arrived. Beautiful, natural, screen appearance. A little more glare than I would like, plus a few other annoyances (see below), but a professional grade giant screen at a much lower price than LCD or than plasma anywhere else.

Amazon was incredible. The first set arrived a day earlier than promised, but the screen was cracked. It took ONE email to customer service, and a new order was put in and a new delivery was scheduled within a few hours. No questions asked. I sent the email about the broken set on the 23rd, and a new set arrived on the 28th. Keep in mind that there was Christmas and a Sunday in between. They also took back the broken set. I doubt I would even get that kind of service from a local store.

Positives about the set:
- Great, crisp, but smooth and natural look on the HD channels. Really, it is beautiful and the colors are perfect.
- Smooth, black frame
- Easy hook up
- Lots of menu options to customize the picture and audio (if you use the TV speakers or direct outputs). Easy to swivel out the side with the hookups to get to them.
- Great, backlit remote control. I am adding a Samsung Blu-ray, so hope to go with one remote by the time I am done.

Negatives:
- Like many sets, there is no good solution for showing 4:3 shows on the wider screen. The default puts up bars on both sides and that looks OK.
- The optical out does NOT pass along digital audio unless the source is broadcast HD. So you cannot route your components through the set then cheat the audio up to a surround system. You have to wire through the receiver.
- Glare is sometimes a problem, but better than most plasmas I have viewed
- Still a little worried about burn in. The manual makes it clear that such an event is NOT covered by the warranty, which makes me think it could easily happen. They do have settings to minimize it and even correct it if it happens. We will see.

Samsung PN58B650 58-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

Samsung PN58B650 58-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

I have just purchased this TV set and it had a noticeable buzz, sufficient that I was going to return it. But my daughter noticed that it wasn't apparent when she switched the input from the cable box to her Wii. Intrigued, I decided to fiddle with the connection before throwing in the towel.

I had the TV hooked up to a cable box with the component cords that came with the set. When I switched the TV back to cable input and disconnected the cable box the buzz was gone.

The manual suggested the best set performance would come from an HDMI hookup, so for about I bought a cheap HDMI cable at a local electronics shop. Using the HDMI connection the buzz is gone, the only sound being a very low hum, which is exactly what you hear on the old CRT's when the sound is off.

The manual clearly suggests that if you live well above sea level the set will buzz. But if you don't (I live barely above sea level), do yourself a favor and try an HDMI hookup before you give up on what is otherwise an outstanding TV.

Panasonic TH-65PZ750U 65-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

Panasonic TH-65PZ750U 65-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

I have had this TV for three weeks now and it is amazing. It has an excellent refresh rate and the picture is great. One warning, you really do notice the difference between regular tv and HD tv. It is also easy to tell the difference between differing HD recordings (some are better than others) and something that has been upcoded. When it is in HD it is amazing. It works well with a Playstation 3 both on movies and games. The PS3 is probably not the best player for movies, though. The SD card slot is a plus and the pictures look great on the big screen. It also can be used as a computer monitor and does a good job as such. In short, a great product. I will update this if any negatives worth noting develop. Only two complaints - one is the price. It is still pretty pricey but that is related to its size. Second - weight. It is a bear. It took three people to mount it on the wall so keep that in mind if you are looking to move it around.

Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-P50S1 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-P50S1 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

I've had this TV for about 3 weeks now, and I'm very impressed w/ it. I did A LOT of research before purchasing and can tell you [...] ranks this TV 4 stars and is 5th best OVERALL Plasma TV on the market based on their research. Also, consumer reports ranks it a best buy.
First off, the delivery by CEVA was seamless, fantastic service. They called me and I scheduled a Saturday delivery, the guy showed up on time, was courteous, and it only took about 10min from box to being up and running.
I had to make some adjustments to the picture to get it to look it's best, I wouldn't recommend the factory settings. I used the optimal settings from [...].
The speakers really aren't the best, it sounds better if you put them on the surround sound option. If you crank the volume very high it can get a little crackly. Best option is to hook up to a stereo. Be aware though, the only audio out connection is a digital optical.
Haven't had any problems w/ burn in, this TV comes w/ the pixel oscillation feature, which helps to prevent burn in. Also, this TV is rated to last 60,000hrs, which translates to 8hrs a day for 20years. Don't let burn in or the picture burning out scare you!
I would recommend this TV to anyone looking for the best bang for their buck. Buy it, you'll like it.
